My initial impression of Piper O'Donnell was "Wow, she's a real pill!" But as it is with anyone, you really can't appreciate them until you've spent some time getting to know them. I had a wonderful time getting to know Piper as she sifts through the clues pertaining to her wealthy husband's untimely demise in this first book of the Piper O'Donnell Social Lite Mystery series. The author, Jennifer Vido, does a fine job in laying out the clues and interlacing the murder mystery with a balance of romance, drama and comedy. I have to admit that I thought I knew who "did it", but I was wrong. The story is well constructed leading to the final revelation that had me guessing right up to the end. The only reason why this novel didn't warrant a full 5 stars for me is that I felt the final confrontation could have downplayed the humor a little and raised the tension more. I didn't really feel the characters involved were in any danger and the ending lost a little of its focus. However, having said that, I would highly recommend this book and I would certainly read it again. Par For The Course is a winner and I can't wait to get started on reading the next book in this series, Country Clubbed! This book is an entertaining whodunit that you simply can't put down until the very last word! On "par" with Sue Grafton and JoAnn Fluke, Ms. Vido's book would make a wonderful vacation read. I thoroughly enjoyed Piper's escapades and trying to figure out who the villain was...keeps you guessing until the very end!
Par for the Course is a delightful read, perfect for the beach or the lake, or just a weekend escape! Heroine Piper's quips are laugh out loud funny, but under the veneer of this bubble-headed socialite is the heart of a savvy, caring woman. She may use her sarcastic wit to outdo those snobby "ladies who golf," but underneath it all, she just wants to fit in. Piper's flirtations with hunky Rusty steam things up a bit, and their amateur sleuthing has you urging them to pay attention to the clues!!!! A cast of quirky characters and their antics leave the reader wanting a sequel to this story. Great romantic suspense debut for author Jen Vido.
In Woodlawn Ohio, when her older womanizing wealthy husband Charles is murdered, Piper O'Donnell is the prime suspect as Par for the Course the cops always look at the family. The townsfolk especially those snooty society ladies at the Woodlawn Golf & Country Club assume she killed her spouse for his money or perhaps another one of his affairs; or more likely both. For her part, she wished they remained in Manhattan.
Piper and Rusty O'Brien meet and are attracted to one another. They, accompanied by her sister and her friend, investigate the homicide before the cops replace Piper's clubs with a murder rap. However, none of the quartet are prepared for a killer who plans to make a hole in one with their respective heads if they come close to his or her identity.
Lighthearted, this is an enjoyable nineteen holes of golf amateur sleuth. The story line is breezy as the quartet of tyro detectives follow the sexual escapes of the late Charles as they believe one of his women finally gave him the permanent hook. Fans who enjoy a facetious sports mystery will want to play the Woodlawn course alongside of Piper and friends.

This book was just what I needed. It is a great all around read from Jennifer Vido!
Piper O'Donnell is implicated in murder but still holds herself together and struts her stuff. She isn't much of a golfer... but the conversations take take place on the course make you keep reading. I found myself laughing at the characters too. Great job Jenifer Vido. Looking forward to the next adventure with your amusing & idiosyncratic character!
This was a cute funny murder mystery. The actual murder took several chapters to get to. Then solving the crime was very interesting. I like the main character Piper O'Donnell and look forward to reading the next 2 books I have downloaded to my ereader. This is not a heavy duty murder mystery. It is light hearted and right up my alley. I think that most people who like this type of murder mystery will enjoy this book.
Great book from first-time author Jen Vido. This is a great summer read to take on the vacay or staycay. Romance, murder mystery, golf course gossip and it all centers around Piper. Piper is used to being the center of attention--but not like this. Suddenly finding herself the prime suspect in her husband's murder, the sexy Rusty, reliable Tanya and her sister Penelope help Piper get through her grief and solve the mystery just in time to find their lives in danger--at the hands of the real murderer. Fortunately, it all turns ...well, you'll have to read it for yourself to find out what happens. So put on your best Lilly, grab a glass of sweet tea and start your summer read.
